Water and the Word: Creation's Longing

Linger very long

in the laboratory

of earth’s history

and you’ll learn

that the water

by which we’re surrounded,

above, below, and around,

is of a constant volume.

What’s less consistent,

however, is its quality;

for the care it receives

has varied

over the eons.

Creation’s current longing

seems to be an invitation

for our particular attention

to the quality and quantity

of what’s available

for our sisters and brothers

near and far.
