Water and the Word: Rivers, Fountains, Pools, Springs

I will open rivers on the bare heights,

and fountains in the midst of the valleys;

I will make the wilderness a pool of water,

and the dry land springs of water.

(Isaiah 41:8)

The prophet conjures a flow

of divine reversals

in which lacking

and parched earth

are transformed

into oases of hope.

Rivers, fountains,

pools, springs, oh my!

And we are called

to set aside a myopic view

of scarcity, in favor

of the divine lens of abundance,

recognizing that resources aplenty

are not a blessing themselves,

but rather an avenue

through which blessing flows.
