Water and the Word: Rivers

John 7:37 On the last day of the festival, the great day, while Jesus was standing there, he cried out, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, 38 and let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, ‘Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.’”

He tied himself both

to human thirst

and divine quenching,

recognizing that faith

graces human beings

with the capacity

to be a conduit for life;

life for our neighbor

who thirsts.

Have you found

the river in your heart?

Have you found

a thirsty neighbor

into whose dry cup

you can help

that stream flow?

The water of life himself

is calling us.

Let us dare

to jump in

and see where

the water takes us.
