Using The Living Waters Status of Projects (SOP) DatabaseThe SOP Database is a Web enabled SQL database (don't worry about the jargon) that lets you maintain and update information about your Living Waters for the World projects from anywhere in the world that has a computer and internet access. This page will help you learn the basics of interacting with the SOP Database. You can:
It's up to you. The important thing is to get started. Topics
Signing InThe first step in using the SOP Database is signing in. To do that, open your favorite browser and navigate to: https://www.livingwatersfortheworld.org/project/signin.php. You should see a page that looks similar to the one shown below:
Your User Name should be of the form: f the form: firstname.lastname, unless your name is John Smith, or something else that's very common. You should have received your initial password by email or in a CWU class. If you have questions about either your User Name or Password, contact ralph.young <at> livingwatersfortheworld.org. Enter these values in the appropriate fields and click the Sign In button to go to the main page of the database, the LWW Status of Projects page. Status of Projects HomeThe first page you'll see after signing in is the Welcome, or Home page, similar to what's shown below.
This page serves as a launching pad for all the activities you may want to do with the SOP database. It's also the page you'll return to if you click the Home link on any other page. The text shown in green underline is a link to another page in the database. Each of these functions, except for the three Edit functions in the middle of the list (which are still in development), is described more fully below. You can also jump directly to them directly from the table at the top of this Help page. Add an initiating or operating partnerThe first two items on the Home page link to an Add Partner page where you enter information about your organization as an Initiating Partner, or about an Operating Partner with whom you will be working. The same form is used for both types of partners. There are information blocks for both Partner Organizations and Partner Team Leads. Once you’ve entered this information, the database will automagically assign a Partner ID to be used on the Add Project page. You can edit this information at any time to correct or update it as needed.
Add ProjectThe Add Project page is the place where you can enter all the information about a specific project, including the IDs for the Initiating Partner (you) and the Operating Partner. The Add Project page has a number of blocks of information for you to enter to describe all aspects of the project. Most should be fairly self-explanatory. The first two blocks at the top of this page are shown below:
You probably haven't memorized your IP and OP IDs. They can be found on the Partner List page available through the menu link at the top of the page. If this is your first project, you may need to enter this information first by going to the Add Partner page. Any field with a down arrow to the right allows you to select the value from a list of options. Plain fields require you to type in a response. Following the Project Information and Location Information blocks above are blocks where you can enter Key Dates and Key Benchmarks for your project, as well as information about the Health, Hygiene & Spiritual Education components of your project. Many of these fields are freeform text fields to give you flexibility in the information you record. The final block is a 'catch-all' category where you can provide a running commentary on the activities associated with your project. Here you can capture details that don't fit anywhere else:
Once you’ve added a project and filled out the appropriate detail, you must press press the submit button at the bottom of the page for the changes to be recorded in the database. If you’ve done that successfully, you will see your project with a newly assigned project number at the top of the list on the Project List page. Edit Project or PartnerOnce you have entered information for your Initiating and Operating partner, and for your first water project, you will be able to return quickly to those paged to edit or update that information. The three Edit items in the middle of the page provide links directly to the information you last entered. Project List
This is the Project List page. It provides an overview of all projects currently in the database. You can click on any green underlined text on this page and expect something to happen. Clicking on a column header will sort the table based on the values in that column; clicking again on the same column will reverse the sort order. The View Status dropdown allows you to filter the list of projects by status:
Clicking on the project number in the left hand column of the Project List page will open the Project Detail page as shown below. This page summarizes all information for any project and partners in the database. If this is your project, you will see menu selections that allow you to edit the project, the IP information or the OP information.
Partner ListThe Partner List page displays all the Initiating and/or Operating Partners currently in the database. Any partner information that you entered will have a Partner ID field that is green and underlined. This indicates that you can edit that information by clicking on the ID. The View Partners dropdown lets you filter which partner lists are currently displayed.
User ListThe User List page has details about every registered user of the database. Essentially, if you took a Clean Water U course, you’re on this list. It isn’t displayed here in part because it’s too wide to fit legibly on a page, and in part because it contains information that shouldn't be shared on a public web page. Since this information is available to any other user, and since all users start out with the same password, it behooves you to change your password to something unique so others can’t log in as you (not that they ever would!). Edit your profileThe Edit Profile page is the place to change or update your personal contact information, including your password for the database. Until you change your password, you will see a reminder notice at the top of the page as shown below:
Once you change your password and/or otherwise update your information the password reminder will be removed and you’ll be notified that your profile has been changed:
Don't forget to press the Submit button at the bottom of the page, or your changes won't be saved. Get HelpThe above option, as you have probably already discovered, links you to this page. We've included it here for completeness. Log outAfter you've finished using the SOP Database to view or update project information, don't forget to exit using the Log out menu selection at the t menu selection at the top of any page. This is an extra measure of security, particularly if you are using the database on a public computer, like at an internet cafe in a foreign country. Logging out insures that a malicious user can't come behind you and steal personal information from the user list, or otherwise compormise or corrupt data. When you have successfully logged out, you will see a page with a message similar to this:
SOP First Time Job AidThe following “Job Aid” will step you through the process of adding your first project to the SOP Database. Don’t be afraid to make a mistake. You can’t mess up anyone else’s stuff and any errors you make can be easily corrected later. Sign In
Add Initiating Partner
Add Operating Partner
Add Project
That's it! You've now completed your first project in the SOP Database. Don't forget to Log Out when you're done. |
